This necklace is an ode to Vernacular Zambian Architecture. In the ciTonga language of Southern Zambia, 'Bwizu' translates as grass or straw. In Vernacular Zambian Architecture grass thatching is one of the most common and sustainable ways to build the roofs of various structures. Homesteads and structures built in this style were constructed and designed with the utmost respect for the environment as they made use of naturally occuring and regenerative materials, like Bwizu.
